2024 NBTA Council Day

May 3rd, 2024 | Kennebecasis Valley High School, Quispamsis, NB

This year, the Music strand is aligned with the Middle Level Council in the southern portion of the province. We are thrilled to have composer, pianist, and creativity guru Evan Mazunik with us for a two amazing half-day sessions:

Playing Off the Page: Making Music In the Moment to Unlock Your Student’s Creativity

In the first session, we’ll explore Realtime Composing as a group using Soundpainting and Conduction. These approaches help ensembles develop their musicianship and imagination through instant collaborative creation. Bring your instrument and we’ll explore together!

Whose Line Is It Anyway: Improvisation Games to Provide Big Fun for Small Groups

In the second session, we’ll pull from a grab bag of improvisation games you can quickly try out in your classroom to build skills and stretch your students. Bring an instrument and we’ll explore together!

Other Music sessions at KVHS:

  • Maureen Dunn (Kodály NS) – A Kodály-inspired Music Class and Nurturing a Culturally Responsive Mindset
  • Bradley Hachey (Oromocto HS) – Composing with K-5: Bucket Drumming and Body Percussion
  • Andrea Gaujacq (Creative Arts Learning Specialist, EECD) – The Wild Symphony with Dan Brown
  • Ian Gibson (Percussion Teaching Artist, Sistema NB) – Health Rhythms and Finding Your Groove
  • Jennifer Keating (Music Lead, ASD-W) – The Versatile Ukulele
  • Ross Simonds (Director, Fredericton Kiwanis Youth Choir) – Working with Young Voices
  • Greg Webber (Fredericton HS) – Recording Studio on a Shoestring Budget

Lastly, we’re reminding you about the NMBEA AGM that will be held at lunch that day in Room 414; we will have lunch, coffee, and cold drinks available for those that attend. The NBMEA AGM will summarize our work over the last year and our plans for next year. We’ll provide an update on our finances, and we’ll hold elections for the vacant Vice President position and our newly established Communications Officer. Lastly, we’ll promote the benefits of membership in both the NBMEA and CMEA.

Please don’t forget that registration is required in advance for sessions this year; please sign up ahead of Council Day so that you are able to attend all the workshops you’re interested in.

We hope you make the trip to KVHS in Quispamsis on May 3rd for a great day of music learning. See you there!
