I’m originally from Camden East, ON, and started teaching in New Brunswick in 2002. I spent my first 11 years at Nackawic High School, resurrecting a band program there with the help of a Band Aid grant. I moved to Fredericton High School in 2013 and became the Fine Arts SPR (now Creative Arts) in 2018. I play saxophone in several jazz groups in Fredericton.
Vice President – Joshua Britten
I am proud to be serving as your acting NBMEA Vice-President. I have been serving in the Anglophone South School district for the past 15 years as an elementary and high school music teacher. Currently, I am teaching at Lakefield Elementary School in Quispamsis, NB. I have a Bachelor of Music; focus music theatre (Acadia University ’05), a Bachelor of Education; Elementary and Middle Level (UNB Fredericton ’08) and a Master of Education in Curriculum Studies; Music Education (Acadia University ’17). I look forward to continuing to serve the dedicated and passionate music educators of New Brunswick. Our goal, as a committee, is to enhance and support the important and life changing work you are doing in the lives of New Brunswick youth.

Jennifer Keating, Fine Arts Lead, ASD-W
Jennifer Keating is a life-long student of music of all types. A graduate of Mount Allison Music, Memorial University Music Education, and a Masters in Curriculum Development from University of New Brunswick much of her career has been dedicated to working with music students at Leo Hayes High School in Fredericton, NB. More recently, she has been serving in the role of ASD-W Music Lead K-12. Music spaces that are inclusive, creatively driven and that value student ideas as central to the experience are those she wishes to foster. She started ukulele as a hobby over covid and fell in love, recently completing Level 1 of the James Hill Ukulele Initiative Teacher Certification Program. She is a founding member and conductor of Second Chances Fredericton Jazz and Intermediate Concert Bands. She plays trombone with St. Thomas University Jazz Band and Backyard Brass.
Jennifer Horsman, Leo Hayes High School, ASD-W
Having grown up in the New Brunswick education system and being actively involved in music extracurricular activities fostering my love for music, it was my dream to pursue a career in music education. After high school I attended the University of Prince Edward Island obtaining a Bachelor of Music Education with a major in Pipe Organ and Secondary Education. I returned to New Brunswick in 1992 and began a 33-year career as a music educator. My early career saw me teaching general music, bands, and choirs in all four corners of the province before settling down in District 18, now Anglophone School District – West in 1999. In 2012, I made the transition back to high school where I am currently teaching grade 9-12 music as well as the band director for both concert band and jazz band. In 2022, I returned to the classroom as a student and received my Master in Education in Educational Administration and Leadership in 2023. My goal as a music educator is to have fostered a passion for making music and performing that will give my students an escape from busy day lives and something to enjoy throughout life.
